At JSC A.B. Bekturov Institute of Chemical Sciences will host a solemn event dedicated to the installation of a memorial plaque in honor of the outstanding chemist, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dauren Khamitovich Sembaev.

Date: December 14th , 2023. Time: 11.00 h
Place: JSC A.B. Bekturov Institute of Chemical Sciences
,
Almaty, 106 Ualikhanov st., (corner of Shevchenko St.)

Academician Sembaev Dauren Khamitovich made a huge contribution to the development of science in the Republic of Kazakhstan. His works in the field of oxidative catalysis and petrochemistry are a model for many generations of scientists.

Sembaev D.Kh. in 1956 after graduating from the Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology. D.V. Mendeleev began his career within the walls of the institute. In 1965 he defended his candidate's dissertation, and in 1982 - his doctoral dissertation. Since 1956 and for 54 years, the creative destiny and main scientific achievements of D.Kh. Sembaeva were inextricably linked with the Institute of Chemical Sciences.

In 1994, D.Kh. Sembaev was elected a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences, and in 2003 - an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Academician D.Kh. Sembaev created a new scientific direction in oxidative catalysis associated with gas modification of complex oxide systems, developed new methods for selecting optimal compositions of vanadium oxide catalysts and principles for regulating non-stationary states of the catalyst to change not only conversion and selectivity, but also the direction and mechanism of the oxidation process.

One of those created by D.Kh. Sembayev’s catalysts for the synthesis of nicotinic acid became the subject of a licensing and patent agreement between the Institute of Chemical Sciences and the company Lonza (Switzerland), which was patented in 50 countries. Industrial production of vitamin PP (nicotinic acid) using this catalyst was launched in 1998 at the Lonza plant in Guangzhou, China.

The results of many years of research by D.Kh. Sembaev received worldwide recognition and were summarized in the collective monograph “Catalysts for Organic Synthesis” (Almaty: Nauka, 1992), in more than 400 articles and presented at the main International and European conferences on oxidative catalysis. He has received 35 copyright certificates and 55 patents from the USA, Russian Federation, France, Germany, Great Britain and other countries.
